There are a handful of guys in the Hall of Fame based mostly on their defensive prowess, but now the "Trout for MVP" movement used defense as part of the reasoning for him winning the award, and defense isn't as important. <br /><br />Centerfield clearly isn't an important position I guess. Brooks Robinson won the MVP when he had an outlier season offensively, because he was THE MAN defensively. Ozzie Smith, Pee Wee Reese, Luis Aparicio, Rabbit Maranville, Bill Mazeroski, and Red Schoendienst all elected to the Hall of Fame because they were great defensively, so it is obvious the "traditionalists" appreciate the beauty of a solid defensive player.
