Nonetheless, I would have an easier time if the tapes were preserved.

I like how you are fired up. NE is a sick team. I am just happy I don't have to hear the media refer to "The Patriot Way" anymore because we all know it's BS. Next time we hear that phrase it might be the title of a book that wraps the Tuck rule, Spygate, Aaron Hernandez and the deflation throughout their 'ships.DGnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-102327997051254703.post-50294212718736950422015-08-03T15:28:26.798-04:002015-08-03T15:28:26.798-04:00I agree it is probably worth more than 10K but I j...I agree it is probably worth more than 10K but I just think it is so similar to so many other small things people in all sports do to get small edges by tweaking equipment. Doesn't make it okay, but I don't see it being worth the penalty they got. The weird thing in all of this is why the NFL escalated the situation. They have done this in a number of ways, most notably with feeding the false report to Mortenson as well as taking so long between various stages. I think it is juts very poor leadership by the league.

I am with you: I am so tired of this story.

I think the spying was a lot worse. I agree with you that it didn't singlehandedly change the outcome, but to me it is a major edge. Imagine for instance that before last year's playoff game that Baltimore had spied on NE and seen them practicing packages where they make their OL eligible, or the Edelman throw to Amendola play. This is obviously a very specific instance but I think the spying was very shady and in my opinion the decision to destroy the tapes is the worst thing Goodell has done as commissioner.DGnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-102327997051254703.post-26799081299460902642015-08-03T08:18:36.772-04:002015-08-03T08:18:36.772-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Bengoodfellahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09401971573776672570noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-102327997051254703.post-69501693921879188372015-08-03T08:18:34.790-04:002015-08-03T08:18:34.790-04:00The NFL threw the book at the Patriots for an act ...The NFL threw the book at the Patriots for an act that I don't believe anyone is really sure is extreme cheating and with evidence that was purely circumstantial and didn't necessarily lead to a hard conclusion the NFL came to. Just fine Brady, let the Colts get their revenge when Luck turns into the NFL's best QB and let's all move on. I don't condone cheating and I think those who cheat should be punished, but the fact there is evidence this way and that about the PSI of footballs. It's not 100% comparable, but baseball pitchers have always tried to get away with scuffing baseballs and you don't see the team he plays for getting fined and docked draft picks. Like I say, it's not comparable, but because people are jealous of the Patriots this is another reason to hate them and want Goodell to go after them. I have no idea how pumped up the footballs were or weren't. I'm not sure the NFL knows. I'm annoyed it's turned into a soap opera.

ESPN isn't letting Mort go anywhere else. No way. They'll protect him. At this point, Stephen A. Smith has a more accurate record of reporting over the past month. DG is right though. He had sources and won't reveal them, ESPN will back him on that because they benefit.

Snarf, I've never seen a Simpsons episode so I don't know if he pouts. That's a dated reference though.

DG, as a Panthers fan I have gotten asked if I thought the Pats taped walk throughs or what I thought about the GM at the time and Moose (Muhammad) saying it seemed like the Patriots knew exactly what they were going to run on offense. It's not like the Panthers had an unpredictable offense at the time. Maybe it's true, I don't care, because watching illegal tape of the Panthers' practices to know their plays didn't make John Kasay kick the ball out of bounds or make them lose the game. Granted, that game happened a while back, compared to the AFC Championship Game, but I don't really care because I didn't see the impact it had on the game in the end. I feel the same way about the Colts-Patriots. I don't see the impact it had on the game.

I think the Pats should have gotten a hefty fine or maybe Tom Brady should have gotten a hefty fine for his (supposed) actions. I'm not sure 10K would be enough for me, but the NFL basically had an involuntary manslaughter case and tried to turn it into Murder-1. What they are punishing requires them to make sure all the evidence is tight and leads to a conclusion and I don't think it does that. I would have fined Brady $100K and then gone on with my life. Like a pitcher who cheats, I don't know what the organization has to do with it, other than the two "inflation" guys were Patriots employees. They fined him based on having indisputable evidence and I think that is where the NFL went wrong. They overdid it. The whole thing has ...I'm in the same boat Ben. The whole thing has been a total joke. I am a Colts fan and I think it has been overblown. I put deflating footballs in the same category as pitchers using pine tar; it is gamesmanship and should have just got a small (~10 K) fine.

I was totally wrong about the appeal tho. I thought for sure once Kraft acquiesced to the organization fines that he had cut a deal with Goodell for a lowered suspension.

As you have pointed out the hypocrisy of these posts is laugh out loud-able.

murray: I agree Mortenson should answer for his report but insiders don't reveal their sources. That is how they get there. Look at Peter King when he reported the league saw the Rice video then backtracked after the fact. He knows he serves the leagues agenda in return for his own status as an insider so he will fall on the sword.
DGnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-102327997051254703.post-76210784910043830152015-08-02T13:59:05.894-04:002015-08-02T13:59:05.894-04:00Mortenson should be fired for that shit. Is Bart Simpson one to pout? A Bart Simpson-Esque response would be more like pulling goodells pants down and skateboarding away or something, I would think.
