  3. The only thing that could be better is a congratulatory letter from Michael Schur.........(still waiting) Can you put a pic on the top of the website, Ben? That would be awesome.

  4. When do we officially have the page? It is not up yet, so I guess it takes a day or two. I will search for a picture and post it at the top.

  6. well assuming the message goes up, I'd say it's money well spent. especially if it's something sarcastic.

on a completely unrelated note, I know no one else here probably cares about soccer but did anyone see today's Brazil/USA game? what a fucking disaster. is it really that hard to find 11 decent soccer players in this country? and why did US Soccer hire Bob Bradley instead of Klinsmann?

  7. from Simmons' twitter tonight:

"Mag column on baseball's most statistically pure era: http://tinyurl.com/lsd9kf Good idea, piss-poor execution. I need a writing vacation."

Not addressing whether the column was a good idea or not, at least this one time Simmons admits how much he sucks. Still, it is very aggravating for him to print an article and then immediately post a "retraction" of sorts elsewhere, admitting his writing was "piss-poor". The man has a "writing vacation" every 4 months it seems.

Anyway, I'm almost certain he prefers the podcast format. Not because of the "wave of the future" BS he's been peddling recently, but because its easier and it allows the possibility of a semi-celebrity stroking his ego.

It's a good thing most of yall don't listen to the podcasts. I sometimes listen when he has an interesting guest on (i.e. not any of his "buddies" or erin freaking andrews), and his lack of preparedness can be embarrassing sometimes.

  8. I think he dearly wants out of the ESPN Mag obligation. He hates that he pretty much has to turn in a column 10 days ahead of it going to print. That's fine if you're the Rickster and you're subjects are timely like a sundial.

I actually like his podcasts that have John O'Connell with Complex Litigation, or whatever he answers the phone with, as long as he isn't the whole podcast. It's the Erin Andrews, guys who are Real World experts, writers for SNL who are giant Red Sox fans that kill the podcasts for me.

  9. I can't wait to see the message on the Eckstein baseball reference site.

Ivn, apparently it is really hard to find 11 decent soccer players in this country. I don't know too much about the coaches but I do know that was embarrassing.

I can't Simmons retracted his article already. He needs to stop writing if he hates it so much. I think you guys are right, he hates the writing, and likes the podcasts. His writing vacation may be permanent...or he would want it to be.

I don't think I have ever listened to a podcast by him. I probably should.

  10. How exactly does someone do this? Is Dale Murphy's page still open?

  11. go to a player page at baseball-reference.com and if there is no one sponsoring it, you can for a fee. Dale Murphy is already taken by a braves blog.

  12. I was told it usually takes a day or two because they make sure there is nothing derogatory. So hopefully we will see it up soon.

  13. Nice, I would like to have Dale Murphy's page. Though I don't think he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, I would do it more in honor of my long dead goldfish, Dale Murphy.
