13 comments Holy Crap, It's Going To Be Madness Tomorrow

Brett Favre just got beat by the Saints in an overtime playoff game where HE DIDN'T GET TO TOUCH THE BALL because the Vikings lost the coin flip. Peter King is going to shit a brick or any other inanimate object because this occurred. Remember last year the shit-fit King threw when Manning didn't get to touch the ball in OT? Multiply that times 1,000 and then factor in we may get a 13 page MMQB with 12 of the pages talking about how crappy the NFL overtime is. This is the end of the NFL overtime as we know it, I have a feeling the rule will be changed.

I can't wait to read Peter King's reaction tomorrow. He is going to destroy the NFL's overtime policy because Brett Favre never touched the ball in overtime. It's madness!

That was my thought as soon as the Saints won the toss. It's guaranteed that PK's opening sentence will be, "Congratulations to the Saints, but the NFL overtime rule blah blah blah." Another NFC Championship ends and we again say that potentially Farve's final NFL pass was an int. Thanks God for today's gift!!

Not to mention the trademark INT at the end of regulation. Sometimes, life is good.

Why don't they just do it like baseball - if they kick a field goal you have the opportunity to match (or win with a TD) on your possession...seems obviously the way to do it.

Nah, play a 7 1'2 minute extra period. If it's still tied, college style, but starting at the 40. Thus it's a lot like hockey or soccer. After a certain point, toss the main part of the game aside and just focus on making a winner!

Could the sweet taste of his teary loss be any more wonderful? Wheeeeee!!

I'm just happy that we get to go into another off-season where if Favre retires his last throw will be a crippling interception.

That pick made my week.

I thought about it pretty much the entire second half. Peter actually takes it pretty well, I was a little surprised.

I do think the NFL should change the OT rules, I have never liked them that much. I can't lie and say I didn't get excited at the idea Favre made a stupid throw to end regulation. I actually just started laughing when the ball got intercepted and stated it was just typical Favre.

He played a great game, but that interception was absolutely horrible.

As we've said before, it isn't a fair system, but in the end, every system always ends up as "and if they are tied, then the NEXT score wins." About the only system that makes sense is the college system, and that isn't really any closer to real football then the sudden death system they have now. I guess you could play without a clock, and make it football "innings" where both teams keep getting the ball until one team has a lead over the other after equal amounts of possession. You wouldn't need a game clock, just a play clock.

I personally like the idea of doing the current OT for two possessions and then on the 3rd possession for each team they can't kick a field goal and have to go for 2 points if they get a touchdown.

Out of the first 12 stories on sportscenter, will brett retire, bretts heartbreakers, bretts int, whats next for favre, pressuring favre, last game for #4?, favre being favre

any stories about how great it is after 43 years to make the superbowl? nope, 23 min in and still havent seen highlights from the colts-jets game. this is why i hate tv

What about Favre not being able to even hand the ball off to Peterson before half. To me that was still the biggest blunder all game. They score there it would of killed the Saints. Even if he doesn't throw that pick its still a crazy long field goal at the end, which means it probably still would of had a similar ending. No matter what at least no Favre in the superbowl!

Zac, it is going to be that way. Peter King barely even mentioned the Colts-Jets game in his MMQB today. It was going to be all-Favre all the time no matter what happened.

I don't even see the point in speculating on Favre until June or July. That's when he makes his decisions.

I think Longwell could have hit that FG, he was reportedly hitting them from 50+ in pregame, and Favre could have been gritty and gotten 10 yards or so if he ran the ball instead of throwing the pass. The fumble by Favre/Peterson was huge though. That would have been tough for the Saints to recover from.

i just read MMQB and good god you are going to have a field day, its laughably pathetic, and august 18th, thats when favre said he would play the vikings, i dont know if i could take 7 more months of favre
